WYCreate is a brand new series of FREE training opportunities for creative freelancers and microbusinesses in West Yorkshire.

WYCreate has brought together some of the best industry experts in the country to help freelancers and microbusinesses to grow and thrive, by providing tailored creative industries skills development and business support. To date, 90 West Yorkshire-based creative freelancers and microbusinesses have received training in subjects ranging from branding and marketing to financial management for freelancers, to AI for creative businesses. In 2025, partners including Bradford Producing Hub, Creative Wakefield, Everybody Arts and Quiplash will be rolling out new training in sustainable creative practice, exploring how to deliver creative health projects, diversity, building creative networks, immersive tech and access to funding.

Courses for 2025

All training is FREE for artists, freelancers and microbusinesses (0-9 employees) based in West Yorkshire. Eligible artists and freelancers can benefit from financial support toward costs of travel and attendance.

Ben McAvoy has been a music composer and sound designer for 16 years. In 2007, he founded WMP with the mission of building a reputable business that brought together talented individuals and collaborators. Sixteen years later, WMP has partnered with some of the world’s largest companies to create emotionally engaging and powerful projects. WMP is a team of music composers, sound designers and collaborators creating the higest quality bespoke pieces for advertising, television, audio branding and museum installations.

The event will feature introductions from Launchpad, Tileyard North, Creative Wakefield and more followed by a panel discussion with individuals who are making waves both locally and nationally.

This free event takes place on Wednesday, 5th February at Vinyl Cafe North, Tileyard North, and promises an evening packed with valuable music industry insights and networking opportunities.

A Brief Introduction to Permaculture Design

Saturday 25 January 2025 at Hebden Bridge Town Hall, Terrance Room

This one-day course will provide a brief introduction to Permaculture Design context, theory and practice. It has been designed specifically with artists and creatives in mind and explores how these ideas can be used to deepen creative practice and to bring a new ethical basis to projects, particularly in relation to ecology, natural systems and regenerative cultures.

The course is practical and participatory and encourages people to think about their own work through a range of lenses. It places learning in a theoretical and historical context but also gives participants practical design tools that they will be able to start using in their own lives and work straight away.

    The Academy of Live Technology has delivered specialist degree courses for over 10 years for live events and visual design subject areas and have more recently developed a suite of more concise industry short courses in live event production, stage and screen production and Virtual Production and Unreal Engine which has been delivered to more than 2000 participants in the UK and Middle East.

  • You will get to see the creation of immersive environments with 'real-life' demonstrations and hands-on exposure to a state of the art studio with spatial capture, camera tracking and large scale LED volumes with both 2D and 3D environments including generative AI solutions.

    The course will be delivered in partnership with existing industry partners including Media Server companies Disguise and Hive, LED Visual Display provider Roe Visual and Vodafone.

    The Academy of Live Technology has delivered specialist degree courses for live events and visual design subject areas for over 10 years. It has more recently developed a suite of more concise industry short courses in live event production, stage and screen production and Virtual Production and Unreal Engine, delivered to more than 200 people in the UK and more than 2,000 in the Middle East.
